Driveway Parking Rentals in 2027: What Hosts Should Know Before Listing a Space
Listing a driveway means telling a rental platform where your space is, when it's available and what you're asking — and, at GoChiHQ, keeping 75% of every booking made through us, with listing free during our phase-1 intake. It also means knowing the honest limits before you start: this is an intake phase, not a live marketplace with renters waiting, and no renter is ever guaranteed. This guide walks through the split, the payment rules, and the checks to run before your spot goes on the list.
How hosting works, step by step
- 1 · List your spot. Neighbourhood, spot type (driveway, garage, carport), availability and your asking monthly price. Two minutes, no account, no fee to list — and your exact address is never published.
- 2 · We review and introduce. GoChiHQ reviews the listing, then introduces local renters as they come — commuters, students, neighbours with a second car, visitors avoiding downtown lots.
- 3 · Get paid monthly. Agree the rental with your renter through the platform, and your spot starts earning. The marketplace fee applies only when a rental is actually booked through us.
One honest staging note: GoChiHQ Driveway Rentals is in its phase-1 intake. We are building the host list now and matching renters as demand arrives in each area — we are not claiming a live inventory of bookable spaces today, and listing early is what puts your spot first in line when renters in your neighbourhood show up.
The split, in the open
When a rental is booked through GoChiHQ, the host receives 75% of the rent and GoChiHQ retains 25%. Platform service charges are covered within GoChiHQ's 25% share — nothing extra is charged on top of the split. Tax is charged on the full rent, on top of it, at the property's provincial rate, and remitted in full: tax is never split and never folded into the percentages. The worked example on the Driveway Rentals page shows the full arithmetic on a sample booking, computed by the same code that runs our booking math.
The checks to run before you list
- Your right to rent the space. Check your lease, mortgage or ownership terms, and condo or strata rules if you have them. The space has to be yours to offer.
- Local rules. Municipal parking and rental bylaws differ by city — a two-minute check before you list beats a ticket after.
- The space itself. Access, lighting, and whether a renter can come and go without blocking you in. What you describe is what the renter expects.
- Payments through the platform. Bookings made through GoChiHQ are paid through GoChiHQ — that is what makes the split, the tax handling and the written agreement enforceable for both sides. Cash on the side protects nobody.
What hosting is not
It is not a guaranteed income scheme, and it is not a live marketplace promising your spot will be booked this week. It is an intake list with a published split and a written host agreement, run by a registered local business, building toward matched rentals neighbourhood by neighbourhood. Hosts who list during intake pay nothing, risk nothing, and are first in line — that is the whole offer, stated plainly.
Questions
Driveway hosting FAQ
How much of the rent do I keep?
75%. When a rental is booked through GoChiHQ, the split is fixed and published: the host receives 75% of each booking and GoChiHQ retains 25%, which covers the platform's service charges. Tax is charged on the full rent, on top, at the property's provincial rate, and remitted in full — it is never split or folded into the percentages.
Is listing really free — and is a renter guaranteed?
Listing is free in this phase-1 intake, and if nobody books, you pay nothing. A renter is never guaranteed: GoChiHQ is in an intake phase, collecting listings and introducing renters as they come. Anyone who promises you a booked renter on day one is promising something they don't control.
Is my exact address published?
No. Your exact address is never published — renters see the area first, and introductions happen through GoChiHQ once a listing is reviewed.
Why do payments run through the platform instead of cash?
Platform payments are what make the published split, the tax handling and the paper trail real — for the host and the renter alike. A cash deal on the side has no agreement behind it and no record when something goes wrong. Bookings through GoChiHQ are paid through GoChiHQ.
What should I check before I list?
That the space is genuinely yours to rent out: your lease or mortgage terms if they restrict renting, condo or strata rules if you have them, and your municipality's parking and rental rules. GoChiHQ reviews listings and introduces renters, but the right to rent out the space is yours to confirm.
